about

Longtime Karmadog fans (both of you) may recall a track of the same title, Smooth Oscillator, on the album Not Fit For Human Consumption. This album was made using a similar technique as that track. Since I am always proud when I come up with clever titles, I decided it recycle it.
This music was made using the single VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) on the Moog Mother 32. I use other modular synths to modulate the output of the oscillator, but every sound you hear is generated by a single VCO, which means that only a single frequency is produced at a time. When the modulation is very fast (reaching the audible range of about 20 Hz), it may sound as though two tones are being sounded simultaneously. Usually, the VCO is modulated by two or more sources, resulting in very complex waveform or even noise.
